[HOWTO] NumLock on Login – Linux Mint/Debian

Switch up to root

su -
Password: xxxx

Install the software

apt install numlockx

Edit the config file

vi /etc/mdm/Init/Default

Add directly below the comment lines

if [ -x /usr/bin/numlockx ]; then
exec /usr/bin/numlockx on
fi
