Move a Dell iDrac7 Enterprise License. In progress

I have a half dozen Dell servers in my home lab. The newer machines don’t have iDrac Enterprise, yet the older servers going to recycle do. My thought is to move the Enterprise license, which is tied to the Service Tag from an old server to a new server. I doubt this will work between different iDrac versions – but theoretically should with like iDrac models.

First, this is an untested idea.
Second, it assumes you know how to mid-level user things – Make live USBs, use a Linux terminal, navigate iDrac…

So, I have a few old Dell Servers with an iDrac License ready to go to recycle – actual recycle, not resale.

Old Machine: Save the Service Tag
Break out the short crayons and scribble

Old Machine: Export the iDrac license
Log in to the LifeCycle Controls and export the license. Save it to a thumb drive.

Your Porn Machine: Create a CD/USB using OMSA71-CentOS6-x86_64-LiveDVD.iso.

New Machine: Start CentOS & open a terminal.
New Machine: Change the machines service tag with the saved tag and enter the following
# smbios-sys-info –service-tag –set=Crayon scribbled service tag
# reboot

New Machine: Start up the LifeCycle Controller
New Machine: Import the exported license.

Done!
